Coastal Living Magazine has chosen Calabash Seafood Hut having the best seafood on the East Coast in this month’s magazine.
By most standards the Calabash Seafood Hut is a tiny restaurant—it can only seat about 65 people in the dining area but customers have been happy to wait patiently in line outside because they know it’s worth the wait!
A part of Calabash history, the Calabash Seafood Hut was opened by local Virgil Coleman back in 1961. Back then it went by the name “Calabash Drive-in,” There they served up hamburgers and seafood at the curbside.
These days the restaurant remains in the same family’s hands. Sisters Marilyn Howarth and Gail Russ, Coleman’s daughters, run the restaurant. But the family says they have no plans to expand stating that it would be the same if they did.
For years many newspapers and magazines have sung the praises of the Calabash Seafood Hut for both its food and and great service.
Coastal Living Magazine recently named it “Best Pick on the East Coast for its shrimp, scallop, fish and clam chowder”.
While in the area be sure not to miss this favorite of locals and visitors alike!
