The day we’ve all been waiting for is here. Beck’s Seafood has reopened after the devastating fire that hit last October. The famous Calabash restaurant was destroyed last fall, leaving nothing but the foundation where the beloved hometown restaurant stood since the 1940s.
The restaurant is completed with a brand new look. The owner says Beck’s is up and running, just in time for the busy summer season.
The restaurant may look a little different, it has been painted a deeper ocean blue and has been furnished with some new landscaping including palm trees and stone walkways. The restaurant has also changed on the inside too, it is a little smaller but more efficiently designed. It can seat more people and makes better use of the indoor space as well. Beck’s has also added a bar, accessed from the outside, so patrons can order a drink while they wait for their table.
While Beck’s may have changed their look a little, don’t expect anything different than before. It’s still a simple family seafood restaurant with great local food and the same employees (who were employed at the family’s other restaurant Ella’s during the closing.) And one of the few silver linings of the fire is that it didn’t get the Beck’s Original Calabash sign, which stands proudly in front of the restaurant ready to welcome everyone back!
